An essential part of liberation is including ourselves in the love we aspire to cultivate for all beings. This becomes a gift we can model for others. Why is this such a difficult task? How can we develop authentic self-love?
The deepest nature of our heart is intrinsically pure, but it is usually obscured by the visiting forms of wanting, aversion, and confusion. This talk explores how to work mindfully with various kinds of difficult emotions and how mindfulness works to purify our hearts of their influence.
Five difficult energies in the mind will inevitably arise in practice:
the classical hindrances of desire, aversion, sloth and torpor,
restless, and doubt. In this talk, the nature of each one is explored
and suggestions are offered for ways of working with them when they
arise. In learning to work with the hindrances, they can become our
very greatest teachers.
