2018-04-30 Short Talk & Meditation: Forgiving and Freeing Our Hearts 36:52
Tara Brach
Forgiveness for others becomes possible when we’ve held our own being with great compassion. This short talk and guided meditation brings forth our most awake and tender presence as we ask for forgiveness, offer care to the woundedness within us, and then extend forgiveness to another who has hurt us.

Distinguishing dukkha as a characteristic and dukkha as a Noble Truth. Relax – nothing is under control. Acknowledging this is the start of a reset. Rather than meeting experience with pre-formed strategies, pause, expand awareness, and meet experience without jumping to conclusions.

2018-04-29 Walking Meditation (30 min silence) 42:34
Ajahn Sucitto
Walking meditation can counter the conditioning of the business model. Walking with nowhere to go, broadening attention to include the whole body, to feel the fluidity and pleasure of bodily ease. [Instructions end 11:28]

2018-04-29 Standing Meditation 27:26
Ajahn Sucitto
From an upright, grounded posture, move from the world of sense consciousness into subjectivity of ‘being conscious’. Meet uncomfortable energies with sympathy and support. [22:43] Transition into movement: Re-enter the world of the physical body – an expression of natural intelligence, integrating it into the sense of the world from the inside out.

2018-04-28 Moving to a meditation model 39:06
Ajahn Sucitto
We practice to come out of the stress and suffering of our workaday ‘Business Model’ by dismantling expectations of comfort and convenience, and of things being reliable. The wise attention that realizes that is itself stable and at ease.

Tara Brach
This guided meditation begins with a calming breath to quiet the mind and relax the body. Following this, we establish our presence with an anchor – the breath, sound or sensation – and practice “coming back” from distractions, and including whatever direct experience asks for our kind attention. The meditation ends with a short loving kindness prayer.

Donald Rothberg
We examine the importance of practicing skillfully with thoughts and emotions as one of the foundations of mindful communication, pointing to several ways of working with thoughts and emotions, with a guided meditation using the "RAIN" method (recognize, accept, develop interest and inquire, and "non-identify" with what is occurring).

2018-04-24 Commitment to Enlightenment 30:23
Shaila Catherine
In this talk, Shaila Catherine explores the purpose of meditation practice. By knowing the goal of the Buddhist path, we can avoid becoming satisfied with deceptive attainments such as mere joy, calmness, and concentration. These pleasant states are not the aim of the liberating path. If we become attached to these temporary states and initial attainments, they become impediments on the path and can prevent the realization of the ultimate goal of awakening.

In collection: Goals in Meditation

2018-04-24 Goals in Meditation 3:05:54
with Andrea Fella, Dawn Neal, Kim Allen, Shaila Catherine, Tony Bernhard
We invited several local teachers to share both the personal aims that guide their practice and their understanding of the goals of the Buddhist Path. We asked them the following questions: What is the goal of Buddhist practice? What do you personally hope to achieve through your practice? What is a reasonable way to assess our progress – how can we tell if we are on track? How can we work skillfully with goals in the context of mindfulness-based practices that emphasize present moment awareness? This series will explore both the ultimate and relative goals of Buddhist practice. It will address the benefits and limitations of having goals, and explore some related practice issues: comparing, expectations, craving for attainments, inspiration, and the potential for discouragement. Join us for an illuminating look into some aspects of your practice you may never have considered!
