Therīgāthā – Awakening Verses of the Early Buddhist Nuns: Monastic Retreat

Western nuns and monks from the Theravada monastic tradition teach each year at the Retreat Center.

During this year’s course, open to both new and experienced meditators, we will explore the breakthrough moments of the awakened nuns of the Buddha’s time. These women came from all walks of life, and their realizations took many forms. Investigating these teachings connects us to the challenges and opportunities of our own lives, and the ways these insights are relevant to us today.

The framework of the Eight Precepts (which include abstaining from eating after noon), Noble Silence, chanting and simple ceremonies will provide a monastic container to hold and inspire us during our practice throughout this silent insight meditation course.
